This research examines the importance of fish production and its marketing value in Ughelli North Local Government Area of Delta State, Nigeria. With the global decline in wild-caught fish due to overfishing and increasing demand for aquatic products, aquaculture presents a sustainable alternative for food security and economic growth. This study investigates local fish production practices, marketing strategies, and challenges, with data collected through questionnaires and interviews administered to stakeholders in the fishery industry. The findings highlight key challenges, including financial constraints, inadequate facilities, and limited public awareness of the economic potential of fish farming. Additionally, the study underscores the significant marketing value of aquaculture, emphasizing its role in addressing nutritional needs, creating employment opportunities, and boosting the local economy. Recommendations include increased investment in infrastructure, enhanced governmental support for research and development, and public-private partnerships to foster aquaculture practices. This research contributes to the growing body of knowledge on aquaculture’s importance in Nigeria, providing actionable insights for policymakers, agriculturists, and local communities. By emphasizing the sustainability and profitability of fish production, this study encourages stakeholders to adopt innovative practices to maximize the sector’s potential.
