Teaching practice plays a crucial role in preparing student-teachers for the realities of the classroom and the broader responsibilities of the teaching profession. This study explores the impact of teaching practice on students’ preparation for teacher education, focusing on the College of Education, Ekiadolor, Benin City, Edo State. The research investigates how this practical component of teacher training enables student-teachers to apply theoretical knowledge, develop classroom management skills, and understand pedagogical approaches in real-world settings. Teaching practice, typically lasting six months, is a core requirement for graduation and certification in education programmes. It offers a valuable platform for student-teachers to engage directly with learners, adapt to classroom dynamics, and receive feedback that shapes their professional growth. The research methodology employed in this study included the use of questionnaires, classroom observations, and oral interviews, ensuring a comprehensive data collection process. Findings reveal that teaching practice is essential in bridging the gap between theory and practice. It fosters confidence, improves communication and instructional skills, and enhances the overall competence of future teachers. The study concludes with practical recommendations to improve the teaching practice programme and address challenges faced by student-teachers, including inadequate supervision and limited teaching resources.
