Advancement in information and communication technology (ICT) is making online learning a viable way of making learners get access to educational resources anywhere in the world through computer systems and handheld devices. In teaching and learning, ICT have successfully added values to the process through the Internet. In this research, the process of delivering lectures via the internet to a wide audience was considered. This work aims at the design and implementation of an e-teaching system, the theoretical models for eLearning and e-Teaching aimed at helping learners and instructors successfully access and manage courses respectively. Examples of course activities corresponding to the model components are shared. Analysis of the proposed system with demonstrations that show the efficacy of the system in terms of increased efficiency, self-regulation, and targeted skills. This project is developed using HTML/CSS, JavaScript, jQuery, Bootstrap, PHP and MySQL Server which shows the validity and efficiency of the proposed e-teaching system. The system will be useful lecturers in the Department of Computer and Robotic Education, University of Uyo in their academic activities involving large number of students without corresponding large classroom/lecture halls.

INTRODUCTION
1.1 Background of study
E-teaching and e-learning are an inclusive terminology for all forms of educational technology that electronically or technologically support learning and teaching. Bernard Luskin advocates that the “e” should be interpreted to mean “exciting, energetic, enthusiastic, emotional, extended, excellent, and educational” in addition to “electronic.” This broad interpretation focuses on new applications and developments, and also brings learning and media psychology into consideration.
The worldwide e-learning industry was estimated to be over $48 billion in 2000 according to conservative estimates. Developments in internet and multimedia technologies are the basic enabler of e-teaching and e-learning, with consulting, content, technologies, services and support being identified as the five key sectors of the e-learning industry. Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) are used extensively by young people.
E-learning has given people in universities and other tertiary institutions accessibility to data wherever and whenever one looks for such data. There are many different technological tools that can be to access these data around the globe. This can improve interactions between students and their instructors for their classes, this can allow students with tools which they can use for different purposes and use independently supports problem base actions. There are also ways that it can deter people from actually learning as pointed out, it may make it easier to chat taking someone away from learning and into talking to someone through social media.
This also can give tech-savvy students an advantage over non-technical students. Over all e-learning through technology will most likely be seen more and more in today’s college environment. Approaches to e-learning require a focus on students providing them with tools to support their shared activities and problem based activities
1.2 Statement of the problem
Before the advancement of Information Technology (IT), methods of teaching and students’ academic performances were evaluated via paper-based system of assignments and tests. Since recent progress in state-of-the-art IT has advanced significantly, educational products are now available electronically and new methods of teaching have emerged. The evolution of the internet, therefore, gives rise to the availability of radical new means of teaching and examination administration in education.
It is very obvious that it is required of lecturers and students to be practically and theoretically sound in the use of Information and Communications (ICT) facilities so as to face the challenges to be encountered in teaching and learning. However, most of the lectures and students are not equipped in this area as expected. Lectures in tertiary institution suffers a lot of setback in instruction transfer as well as getting feedback from the students due to the traditional teaching method which they practice. They don’t have access to the internet and lack knowledge of what is obtainable in the society.Hence, the problem centres on effective teaching and learning process for the impacting and the advancement of the students’ theoretical and practical knowledge.
1.3 Purpose of the study
This project is aimed at design and implementation of e-teaching platform for the Computer and Robotics Education Department.
1.4 Specific objectives
The objectives of the study are to develop e-learning applications that are capable of:
-
- To collect the detail record of students.
-
- To create a database for the students and lecturers.
-
- To design an e-teaching system for teaching and learning
-
- To create an easy to use friendly user interface.
1.5 Significance of the study
This protect work ‘Design and Implementation of e-teaching system’ will be of great significance to the Department of Compute r and Robotics Education in the sense that it will help in overcoming the problems of manual operations. Such problems include rigors in class time and location, difficulty faced by students in accessing course materials as well as test results, and inability of students to remotely attend classes and access class work at any location. Therefore, the system will work greatly in the following ways:
-
- Effective learning of the subject topic by the student, focusing on developing e-teaching application that will be captivating through the provision of different learning platforms and skillful use of multimedia which will lead to the enhancing of effective learning and reduction work load.
-
- Cost of learning materials will be reduced significantly when compared to the cost of traditional teaching materials or the cost of conventional instructional system.
-
- Reduction in the duration of teaching and learning, and strengthening of teacher effort. The training time could be reduced up to sixty percent (60%) as against the traditional classroom method using e-learning product. These, in turn, increase the rate of knowledge assimilation and allow the teachers to direct more effort on other areas where the students are deficient.
-
- Apart from these main importance of the study, other reasons like protecting the students from assimilating wrong information passed on by the quack, the inadequate learning and teaching materials, difficulties to have access to information on time, and the general factors affecting effective learning could take care of.
1.6 Scope of the study
This study focuses on the development of e-teaching system for the Department of Computer and Industrial Technology, University of Uyo. It shall include programs which will contain detailed academic activities, focusing on developing e-teaching application that will be captivating with the use of multimedia which will lead to the enhancing of effective teaching and learning.
