This research critically examines the role of multinational companies, specifically Chevron Nigeria Plc, in fulfilling their social responsibilities within the context of Nigeria’s local communities, notably in Port Harcourt, Rivers State. It emphasizes the obligation of these corporations to implement corporate social responsibility (CSR) initiatives that benefit their host communities. Utilizing a sample of 370 employees randomly selected from a population of 500, the study employs questionnaires to investigate the perceptions of Chevron’s CSR contributions. The findings reveal that despite some challenges, including community unrest, vandalism, and environmental degradation, effective CSR practices by Chevron enhance community relations, thereby uplifting the living standards of local residents. It is recommended that Chevron intensify its community engagement by providing employment opportunities for local youth, establishing scholarship programs, and holding training sessions to improve workforce skills. By fostering a collaborative environment, both Chevron and the local community can achieve sustainable growth. Ultimately, this research underscores the significance of CSR in mitigating community tensions and promoting development, suggesting that a mutual understanding and cooperation between multinational companies and local communities are essential for achieving long-term benefits.
