ABSTRACT: This study investigates the influence of home environment on children’s academic performance in Egor Local Government Area, Edo State. Data was collected from ten randomly selected schools, focusing on socio-cultural factors that may impact academic outcomes. Four research questions guided the study, with data gathered through questionnaires and analyzed using percentage scores. Findings reveal that children of educated parents tend to perform better academically compared to those with less educated parents. Additionally, access to learning materials significantly enhances academic engagement and achievement. The study also highlights the importance of a positive parent-child relationship, demonstrating that children with cordial family dynamics excel more in school than those without such support. Cultural factors were also identified as influential, with conflicts arising from divergent cultural practices affecting students’ performance. This research underscores the critical role of the home environment, including parental education, resources, and cultural dynamics, in shaping academic success. The study provides valuable insights for educators, policymakers, and parents, emphasizing the need for a supportive home environment to improve academic outcomes for children. Further research is recommended to explore interventions that address these socio-cultural challenges in diverse educational contexts.
