Abstract

This study examines individual frustration and interpersonal conflict among youth, focusing on students at the Institute of Management Technology (IMT), Enugu. Motivated by the need to identify causes, effects, and management strategies, the research employed a combination of primary and secondary data collection methods, including questionnaires, interviews, and observations. Data analysis involved the use of chi-square and descriptive statistics. Findings reveal that frustration among IMT students is primarily driven by inadequate accommodation, ineffective lecture methods, delays in addressing students’ concerns, and circumstances beyond their control. Interpersonal conflicts often arise from communication gaps, misunderstandings, and shared inadequacies in accommodation. While conflicts can negatively impact students by causing anxiety and distress, they can also enhance performance under certain conditions. More than half of the respondents reported experiencing frustration. Recommendations include improving infrastructure, such as lecture halls and hostels, fostering effective communication between management and students, and equipping students with conflict resolution skills. Management should also adopt proactive measures to address students’ needs and improve staff responsiveness. The study concludes that frustration and conflict are inevitable within social systems. By understanding their dynamics and embracing effective management, these challenges can be mitigated to foster a healthier academic environment.
