EVALUATION OF THE IMPACT OF ROAD NETWORK ON THE SELLING OF AGRICULTURAL PRODUCTS IN ANAMBRA STATE. (A CASE STUDY OF NJIKOKA L.G.A, ANAMBRA STATE)

ABSTRACT:

This research evaluates the impact of road networks on the sale of agricultural products in Njikoka Local Government Area, Anambra State, Nigeria. The study emphasizes the vital role that efficient transportation systems play in facilitating the movement of goods from farms to markets, especially in rural regions where adequate infrastructure is often lacking. Utilizing a mixed-methods approach, the research incorporates qualitative and quantitative analyses through questionnaires distributed among farmers and traders in the area. Findings reveal that poor road conditions significantly hinder the distribution efficiency of agricultural products, leading to increased spoilage, delayed market access, and reduced profitability for local farmers. The study identifies key factors, including inadequate maintenance, lack of access to major transport routes, and the prevalence of narrow, poorly drained feeder roads. These issues contribute to a cycle of inefficiency that undermines food security and agricultural growth in the region. Recommendations emphasize the urgent need for targeted government investment in rural road infrastructure to enhance accessibility for farmers, thereby fostering a more resilient agricultural sector. By addressing these infrastructural challenges, the study aims to provide actionable insights that can stimulate agricultural productivity and improve market outcomes in Anambra State.
