This study explores the differences in academic performance between boarding and day students in secondary schools within Oredo Local Government Area, Benin City, Edo State. Using a sample of 120 students selected through simple and stratified random sampling across three secondary schools, the research employed questionnaires and first-term examination scores to gather data. Simple percentages were used to analyze the findings, guided by three key research questions:
- Are there notable differences in academic performance between boarding and day students?
- How does parental socioeconomic status influence students’ academic outcomes?
- Does the learning environment positively or negatively impact students’ academic performance?
The study’s methodology facilitated an in-depth comparison of students’ academic outcomes, shedding light on the role of living arrangements, economic background, and environmental factors in shaping educational success. The findings provide valuable insights for educators, policymakers, and parents, emphasizing the need for tailored interventions that address the unique challenges faced by both boarding and day students. By understanding these dynamics, stakeholders can implement strategies to foster improved academic performance across diverse student groups.
