This study explores the critical role of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) in detecting and preventing fraud within the Nigerian banking sector, with a focus on selected banks in Anambra State. Employing inferential statistical analysis, the research provides a generalized conclusion on the impact of ICT on fraud management. The study utilized a questionnaire as its primary data collection tool, targeting staff and customers from First Bank, Union Bank, Zenith Bank, and Access Bank in the region. Data were analyzed using chi-square (X²) statistical methods. Findings indicate that new generation banks are more adaptive to modern ICT tools compared to older banks, which demonstrate resistance to operational changes. Furthermore, the study highlights inadequacies in the supervisory roles of regulatory agencies, citing ineffective monitoring mechanisms that undermine compliance with established rules and regulations. This gap in oversight compromises the banking system’s resilience against fraudulent activities. The research underscores the need for the government to intensify its efforts in consolidating recapitalization reforms. Regular and effective monitoring of banking operations is imperative to align Nigerian banks with international standards and practices. The study concludes that leveraging ICT effectively can significantly enhance fraud detection and prevention, thereby promoting a more secure and efficient banking environment.
