This study examines the role of multimedia as a modern instructional tool in the teaching and learning of Computer Science at the secondary school level, focusing on selected schools in Oredo Local Government Area of Edo State, Nigeria. As digital literacy becomes increasingly important in today’s educational landscape, integrating multimedia into the curriculum holds the promise of enhancing students’ comprehension and engagement with computer science concepts. A total of 70 students were sampled from six secondary schools, St. Mary Dedication School, Oredo Girls College, Immaculate Conception College, Edo College, Itohan Girls Grammar School, and Iguodala Primary School, using stratified sampling methods to ensure a balanced representation. Findings from the study reveal that most students possess basic knowledge of computer science and show a positive attitude towards multimedia-assisted instruction. However, the study also indicates a critical need for teachers to be proficient in the use of multimedia tools. The effectiveness of multimedia hinges largely on the competence of the educators, who serve as facilitators in integrating text, images, audio, and interactive simulations into classroom instruction. Based on the results, the study recommends the incorporation of regular teacher training on multimedia technologies and the provision of necessary infrastructure to support digital teaching methods in secondary schools.
